What is Dental Sealant?
Dental sealant is a simple and noninvasive procedure that effectively prevents decay on the biting surfaces of your chewing teeth. Sealants protect the depressions and grooves of your teeth from food particles and plaque that brushing and flossing can’t reach.
How is Sealant Applied on Teeth?
In this procedure a tooth-colored “coating” is painted and bonded onto the surface of the tooth. This effectively “seals” the deep grooves, changing the shape of them to a shallow groove and acts as a barrier. This protects enamel from plaque and acids.
Easy to apply, sealants take only a few minutes to seal each tooth. Sealants hold up well under the force of normal chewing and can last several years before a reapplication is needed.
Who Can Benefit From Them?
Children and adults can benefit from sealants in the fight against tooth decay but we highly recommend them at the early stage of mixed dentition which is between 6-9 years old.
